Kirinyaga MCAs Come up With another Idea to Deal with Gov. Ann Waiguru.

Kirinyaga members of county Assembly have come up with another idea to deal with governor Ann Waiguru amid rumors that, the governor might survive the impeachment at the senate.

Immediately after the senate session to discuss how Ann Waiguru’s impeachment case will be handled, Elgeiyo Marakwet senator Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen asked the people of Kirinyaga county to think otherwise claiming the selected senators to deal with the case will protect Waiguru from the impeachment.

“Senate has sanitized and cleared the governor of Kirinyaga. It is done. Don’t wait for the committees decision. To the people of Kirinyaga, i am sorry we did our best but it is finished. Your fight for accountability has been frustrated by senate, do not give up, use other avenues” Murkomen told people of Kirinyaga.

A concern resident of Kirinyaga reached us saying that the MCAs in the county have already started convincing the residents for signatures to dissolve the Kirinyaga  county government completely.

Section 123 of the County Governments Act provides for the suspension of county government in Kenya in exceptional circumstances.

Any petition to suspend a county government must be supported by signatures of at least 10 percent of the registered voters in that specific county.

The constitution allows any person to petition the president to suspend a county government if the county government engages in activities against the interest of the citizens of a county.

Upon receiving the petition the president, he is required to submit the allegations within 14 days to apex intergovernmental body for approval.

Thereafter the president will nominate members of a commission who should be approved by the senate, to investigate the situation in that specific county and make recommendations.

The commission should include a chairperson who is an advocate of the High Court, chairperson of the national police service, two residents from the affected county and two other persons from different counties.

The fact here is that the petition will not skip the senate, which is seen to be protecting the Kirinyaga county governor.
