Mlolongo insecurity amid looming eviction

Residents of Mlolongo Machakos County are living in fear following numerous attacks in the area.

The Agitated residents of Kwa Mulinge phase four allege that the attacks by unknown hired goons are meant to forcefully evict them from the disputed 400 acres communal land.

They say the goons armed with crude weapons have been terrorizing them at night causing massive destruction.

Tens of families have now been rendered homeless after they were demolished in the wee hours in the last one month.

To the chagrin of the residents the unknown people have begun surveying and demarcating the 400 acres piece of said communal land.

The demarcation is done under a tight watch of armed police men pitting police officers against residents.

Residents further accuse the Athi-river security apparatus for providing security during destruction of property and land demarcation despite residents having a pending case in court.

The residents say they have submitted all legal ownership documents and the land claimants should wait for the court ruling.

They are now calling for justice and protection fearing looming deaths if the issue is not urgently addressed.

Land disputes have in the recent past been rampant in Athi-river as land owners, land grabbers and squatters fight over the expansive undeveloped pieces of land.

Efforts to reach Athi-river sub county police boss Catherine Ringera for comment over the matter has been futile.
