Atleast 3000 women and youth groups in Machakos have received financial support from National Government Affirmative Action in a bid to cushion them during the hard economic times occassioned by COVID-19 pandemic.

The groups majorly undertake table banking , poultry keeping and boda boda businesses at the rural areas.

The revolving fund supports women and youth in group formations to build their incomes at the grassroots.

Speaking at Kaewa during the award ceremony of the cheques, the youth and women urged the Government to increase NGAAF funding for more impact in the rural economies.

The initiative which is under patronage of Machakos County MP Joyce Kamene Kasimbi targets to empower the most vulnerable in the grassroots.

The initiative also includes water tanks program . The two programs have been running side by side and water tanks initiative targets over  3000 households by start of Oct-Noverber short rain season.

” We  are giving Women water tanks to ensure they access clean water . The tanks are at a subsidized price,  part of which has been paid by NG-AAF” said Kamene.

She urged the Government to consider scalling up  NGAAF allocation inorder to meet numerous needs of the rural communities.

Those who received water tanks said their dreams for accessing clean water  had come to reality.

Machakos County is  one of  the Coronavirus hit counties owing to it’s proximity to Nairobi City,a perceived COVID-19 epicenter.
