NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO BAR LEVEL 4 AND 5 HOSPITALS FROM DETAINING CORPSE
A Murang’a counsel have said he will draft a petition and present it  to the National Assembly for approval to push for level 4 and 5 hospital to have in place insurances that will be catering bills left by patients who dies during treatment.

Speaking in Muruka village of Kandara constituency, Murang’a at the home of a family whose body of their kin was detained by a Murang’a mission hospital for 6 months due to accrued hospital bill of sh4M, Lawyer Mbiyu Kamau said its high time the National assembly pass laws that will ensure Kenyans are not suffering to raise bills left by their loved ones once they die.

The popular lawyer said the corpse is valueless hence cant own any value and there should be no reason of detaining bodies in hospital and leaving poor families mourning because this is adding another pain on top of the other.

Kamau gave a scenario where one borrow a loan from a bank and the said loan is insured so that incase of  debtor’s death the money is recovered since it was insured, a thing he want to push for the health facilities to adopt.

The legal expert say it should be a crime to detain body of a person left the hospital bills charging the institution officials should be arrested and arraigned in court.

He decried that at the moment bodies of three residents from Ruchu, Kagundu-ini and Gaichanjiru are lying in Thika level five, Kijabe mission hosp and Kenyatta National hospital due to bill arrears of sh 1.4M, SH2.5M and SH200,000 respectively for couple of months, and relatives don’t have hopes od burying them in near future since they cant be able to raise the money.
