CS Keriako Tobiko Reiterated His Commitment to Repossess Public Land Countrywide.

Environment and forestry Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has reiterated his commitment to repossess public forest land encroached countrywide.

Speaking in Kajiado central Mr Tobiko said he won’t be swayed by political noises by few individuals meant to derail him.

He said his ministry is focused to protect major water towers country wide saying after reclaiming part of May forest the annual rainfall has resumed with River Amalo and Mara continuously bursting it banks.The same positivity has been attributed to Government eviction of encroachers in Samburu Kirisia forest

Tobiko reclaiming of May Forest has been felt in Kajiado and Lake Victoria where water levels have risen.

He urged Maasai Moran to be in the frontline in conserving the environment in their villages and join hands to fight illegal logging and charcoal burning.

He reiterated his ministry to reclaim the encroached forests and support the afforestation to enable the country increase forest cover by 20 percent by 2030.

Several Maa leaders led by former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex Magelo want an extra part of Mau forests extending to Emurua Dikirr Constituency repossessed.

Meanwhile Devolution Ministry PS Charles Sunkuli has urged the Maa Counties to have a Sh 50M annual budget to promote and preserve the Maasai culture.

When attending the ongoing Maasai moran Oleng’sherr celemony that will see 3,000 Moran’s graduate to young elders,he said devolved units have responsibility to preserve the culture.

CS Tobiko said thevrich  Maasai culture remains endangered with unscrupulous individuals exploiting it for monetary gains.

He urged the county government to develop policies to safeguard the culture that is perceived as the National heritage.
